For fans of Severance and The Girl Before, The Secretary Volume II is a razor-sharp psychological thriller where ambition is a trap, power is a game, and saying “yes” could cost everything.
“I’ve been watching you. Waiting for you. And now, it’s your turn.”
There’s no escaping Shergar Corp.
Lena Blackwell wanted a fresh start. A new city. A new job. A clean slate.
Then she met Gillian Martin.
Polished. Poised. Perfect. A little too perfect—like she’s rehearsing lines someone else gave her. Like she isn’t real anymore.
And Ellis Harrison is the reason why.
Shergar Corp’s founder. The man who built everything. The man who decides who lives and who vanishes. He doesn’t make threats. He makes people disappear.
Then Lena finds the note.
Do you have what it takes to be in my world? Check yes or no.
It reads like a dare.
It functions like a death sentence.
The deeper she digs, the more the walls close in. The more she resists, the more she loses—her past, her choices, her way out.
Because Gillian once stood where Lena stands now. And if Lena isn’t careful, one day, someone new will stand where she is.
Holding the same note.
Reading the same words.
Asking the same question.
And then?
They’ll bury what’s left of her.

Great follow up to the first. I read in one sitting.
🍿 𝘍𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘐𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴: The Secretary Volume II is the follow up to Britney King’s The Secretary and what a great follow up it was! I did a reread via audio of the first one before reading and I’m glad I did. The continuation from book one while also making this a standalone story about Lena was perfection and I loved the dual narrative.
🤩 𝚃͏𝚑͏𝚎͏ 𝙱͏𝚎͏𝚜͏𝚝͏ 𝙱͏𝚒͏𝚝͏𝚜͏: The pacing of this book was phenomenal, and I sped right through it. Ellis is up to all of his old tricks, and while I spent part (ok, most) of my time yelling at Lena in my head not to fall for it, she of course can’t help but give in to Shergar Corp and Ellis. This took a turn I wasn’t expecting though, and I loved the twists! King’s books are always super addictive as well and this was no exception.
💭 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘛𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴: This book does stand on its own, but I would still recommend starting with The Secretary to completely understand the storyline and the players. The suspense and tension are both high in this one and I am very intrigued by the ending! King left us with an opening for another book and I hope we get it.

I liked this one as well as the first! It is imperative that you read The Secretary first to understand the story; the background, the manipulations, the purpose, and the chain of events.
I am definitely a fan of this author!!

This second installment is even better than the first in my opinion. Quite shocking and brutal in parts, but there were still some unanswered questions for me ( is Kevin the same person?) I'm thinking that this isn't the end and wait with baited breath for part 3.
Yassssss! This book!!!! Yassss! Oof how I loved the first Secretary and now this follow up is just as, if not more, fab! King’s writing is sharp and visceral. You feel her words in your soul. Absolutely brilliant.
Lena is broke, hating her job, and living out of her car when the perfect job interview lands right on her doorsteps (car door?). This job will give Lena everything she’s ever wanted in life. Money, stability, and most importantly security.
But you know what they say about perfect things landing in your lap. Something is up with this company and its CEO, Ellis - but Lena thinks she can make this all work. She has no idea what she’s in for. And Ellis? He might have just hired his own demise. But it’s too late for all of that worry now because the documents have been signed. Their fates are sealed.
The Secretary: Volume II by Britney King is a mind-bending psychological thriller that I thoroughly enjoyed. Some of the scenes had me screaming internally while laughing deviously outwardly. Devious. Torturous. Pure fabulousness.
Devoured this one. Also loved seeing ol’ Gillian back at it again. For her full story read the first book. I’d say you could read this as a standalone without any major plot holes - lord knows my memory since Covid is nonexistent - but I’d recommend reading both.
